La Palmyre Zoo

Created in 1965, La Palmyre Zoo is the most popular private zoo in France and one of the most beautiful in Europe.

A must-see in the Royan area

23 km away from the campsite, La Palmyre Zoo has over 1,600 animals within a vast wooded area, in the heart of La Coubre Forest.

With 18 hectares of pine forest, the animals live in vast spaces, integrated in the environment, and many animals are born here each year.

The zoo includes Asian elephants, polar bears, orang-utans from Borneo, lemurs from Madagascar and flamingos from the Caribbean, red pandas from Nepal and African zebras.

  • The parrot and sea lion shows from Easter to the end of October half-term
  • The Big Monkey Area covering four islands where visitors can see chimpanzees, orang-utans and gorillas
  • The African plain with ostriches, zebras and antelopes
